Pastor Richard Goodlin(Pastor Dick)


Pastor Dick was born and raised around Bethlehem Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College in 1970 with honors in mathematics. He was trained for the ordained ministry at Hamma School of Theology in Springfield Ohio. He served as Pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Pasadena Maryland from 1975-86. He was called to be the Pastor of St. Stephen in July 1986.

Pastor Dick enjoys providing variety in worship especially using drama. He has written a number of plays for use in worship services, including dramas used for the community ecumenical Good Friday Service, Advent Services, and youth groups. In sermons and in teaching, Pastor Dick makes a conscious effort to use language ordinary people can understand rather than use heavy theological language.

Pastor Dick is also active in the Synod and in the community. He serves on the Mission Through Leadership Team of the DE-MD Synod, along with being Chairperson of the Budget Development Team of the Synod. He is Treasurer for the Greater Arbutus Ministerial Association. He also conducts workshops on church and clergy tax issues.

Pastor Dick resides in Catonsville Maryland, is married and has three children and four grandchildren. He enjoys playing golf and watching sporting events.
